Karelia, mid summer '19

A short trip to Karelia with my friend and her father. There is not much to see there apart from churches and nature, so it would suffice to only post them.

As promised: churches. They come in all fashions here: wooden (made without nails, can you imagine?), concrete and stone.

Nature stuffs, featuring: strange cairns, a whole lot of lakes, swamps (yes, they matter for environment, too), and petroglyps. While the latter is man-made, it was about 6 thousand years since the creation, so no one knows for sure!

Birbs included: as in many Northern regions, Karelia is finely suited for those favouring birdwatching.
Bonus: an abandoned wooden (!) lighthouse at Devil's Nose and a strange holes in the stones. There are plenty of those there.

It is sad to see how no one cares about preserving the nature wonders of Karelia. While Iceland bravely defends its historical and rural sites with unthinkable fines, Russia prefers not to invest in potentially golden regions.
